We all talk about and fee stress, and not all stress is “BAD”… Stress comes from both the good and the bad things that happen to us. If we did not feel any stress, we would not be alive! Stress becomes a problem when we are not sure how to handle an event or a situation. Then worry sets in, and we feel “stressed.”

Good stress can motivate us and help us reach goals and new heights, bad stress can cause pain, suffering, health issues and even disease.  Stress affects the body’s physiology and when we perceive a threat, out body naturally reacts to that perceived threat.  We don’t need to run from tigers now a days however the body feels this same stress response… stress is a reaction and many feel out of control or overwhelmed in stressful situations.

How can one better deal with and reduce stress?  

Identify the problem. Is your job, business, school, a relationship with someone, or worries about money causing stress? Are unimportant, surface problems hiding deeper problems? Is there negative emotions coming up, perhaps childhood events or trauma that have not been fully dealt with?  Once you know what the real problem is, you can do something about it.

Talk About it.  Yes, its good to talk about the problem, get it out so there can be ideas exchanged on how to best resolve the problem.  However many people circle their problems, they talk about it, complain to others about it, even post about it on social media where other people can “like” or weigh in on their problems.  IS there a secondary gain to keeping the problem?  Quite possibly there could be.  What NLP practitioners use in coaching therapy is what’s called “Pattern Interrupt”.  We get people to stop circling the problem, we re-frame so people can see the problem from different perspectives so they are able to see that they have more choices on how to resolve the problem.  This is where people are able to make the positive shifts needed in order to get the results they want.

Ask for help.  If you are not able to see solutions yourself, you may need external support.  There are no failures, only learnings or feedback.  Asking for help is never a sign of weakness, its a sign of strength.  Knowing you need help and being able to ask for it takes courage.  NLP Coaching or Therapy is Results driven.  Helping clients to see different avenues and ways to solve even the most complex of problems.

Learn  thinking and mindset strategies. The way you think about situations affects your physiology and the way you respond to them. Unhelpful thoughts, such as believing that everything must be perfect or expecting the worst possible outcome, can make problems seem bigger than they really are.  Focus on what you want, never on what you don’t want because the unconscious mind does not process negatives.  When someone says to themselves “I don’t want to feel stressed”… the mind hears “I want to feel stressed”.

Do something you enjoy.  Making time for hobbies, sports, or activities that you find fun or make you laugh will release happy hormones in the body. Listen to music, read, go for a walk, see a friend, watch your favorite movie, or do whatever makes you feel good.

Hypnosis can help.  Hypnotherapists frequently use hypnosis for stress and anxiety treatment. It has already helped countless people free themselves from the heavy weight of stress and helped them be healthier.  Not only will hypnosis help you relieve stress at any given moment, it can also help you eliminate or at least reduce the problems that are causing you stress, the root problem.  Regardless of what our triggers are, it is our mind that tells our body how it will respond to those triggers. If our mind interprets a situation as being stressful it will tell our body that we are in a stressful situation and our body will react accordingly.

Stress is created by your thoughts and anticipation of what your mind believes will happen next. Hypnosis for stress and anxiety helps your mind perceive situations differently, which will reduce stress and make you feel better, healthier, happier.

Time Line Therapy.  The purpose of TLT is to systematically remove all major negative emotions attached to all memories from the past. It does not remove the memories themselves, just the emotions that are attached to them such as anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt.  TLT requires the person to first of all elicit the location and orientation of their time line, float above it, and remove all the negative emotions attached to all memories from the past, starting from the first experience or root cause the person felt that emotion. The entire process, on average, takes less than fifteen minutes. Having said that, there is a whole lot more to the technique and requires someone certified in TLT, to take you through the process.

Get Physical.  Exercise has been shown to reduce stress.  Get out in the sunshine for some natural vitamin D for a nice walk, you will feel less stressed after a few short minutes. The most important part is that it gets you moving and you enjoy it—it shouldn’t feel like a chore. If you experience barriers to physical activity try this simple anchoring exercise.

Motivated 2 Exercise Technique – Remember a time or imagine a time when you felt totally motivated.  Visualize the scene, see it through your own eyes, hear what you would hear and feel exactly how it feels to be totally motivated.  Make the picture brighter, bigger and when you feel the feelings peak press on your right knuckle.  Keep going through that motivation movie and as soon as it finishes, start over again.  Repeat this 5-10 times.

Now, test it out… press on your right knuckle.. do you feel the feelings of motivation?  Good.  Now as you press on your right knuckle, I want you to imagine and see yourself moving your body, exercising in whatever way you find pleasurable… associating the motivation feelings to moving your body.  Now, how motivated are you to exercise?

Stress is a part of being human and we cannot eliminate all stress from our lives, however, we can chose how to respond to situations.  WE are in control of all our thoughts, attitudes and behaviors.  We are in control of how we react and respond and realize we are not in control of what is outside us.
