Are you happy? Do you feel your life has purpose and meaning each day when you wake up? If the answer is not a resounding yes, have you given thought as to what might be blocking you? Could it be that you have too much Crap or just stuff that you don’t really need?
I recently watched a movie called “Minimalism” A movie, documentary, which features Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, two childhood friends best known as “The Minimalists” to the millions of people who read their blog and books.
Are you in debt, perhaps reducing your spending will help and buying only that which you actually need instead of what you want… which brings financial freedom by eliminating debt and increasing your savings. Many who are in debt are more unhappy and more depressed because of the stress and their situation. Buy what you need only and see how this can help you reduce your stress.
When it comes to decluttering and minimizing, there are many ways to go about it. If getting rid of everything at once sounds too extreme, then i suggest to take baby steps. Go through items and ask yourself questions such as… Does this item add value to my life, do i need this stuff or can i do without it?
Are you spending hours a day on social media, watching tv or shopping? Are these activities adding value and making you happy or are they taking time away from activities that you could be doing which might bring more happiness and connectedness into your life?
Love yourself, love others and not “things”… – Consumption itself is not the problem; perhaps compulsory shopping is. It’s like being on a hamster wheel — you keep shopping, thinking happiness and life satisfaction will come with it. Yet it never does. We all need to eat, have clothes to wear but how many outfits, shoes, purses does one need? Many times, accumulation of material goods is a symptom that you may be trying to fill a void in your life.
The problem is that void can never be filled by stuff and things… This void is actually a need for more love, connection and experiences that bring purpose, happiness and fulfillment.
i have lots of clothes and do go through them every few months, i’ll take them to be donated. I must admit, i’m not a big shopper which i’m thankful for and i would like to downsize in all areas which is something i’ll be working on over the next while, perhaps you would like to do the same.
